The country of Morocco is a key U.S. ally in the North
Africa region. The two countries militaries are engaged in
military exercises on a periodic basis.
Conflict in the Western Sahara
There has been a long-running conflict between the Polisario
and the government of Morocco over a portion of the country
that lies along the border between Morocco and Mauritania. This
conflict dates back to the 1970s. [1]
In 1991 a ceasefire was agreed upon that diminished
hostilities. However, in 2020, tensions rose once again. [2]
