Drone SwarmsHome > Military > Drones > Drone Swarms Drone swarms consist of multiple autonomous or semi-autonomous unmanned systems that cooperate to accomplish a shared mission. Operating in the air, at sea, underwater, or on land, swarms overwhelm defenses through coordinated movement, distributed sensing, and simultaneous attacks or reconnaissance. Advances in artificial intelligence, communications, and autonomous navigation have made drone swarms an increasingly significant military capability. Swarms can conduct surveillance, electronic warfare, target acquisition, strike missions, mine countermeasures, and logistics while reducing risk to personnel and complicating an adversary's defensive response.
