MH-6 Little BirdHome > Military > Aircraft > MH-6 The MH-6 Black Hawk helicopter is used by Army special operations forces for the infiltration, exfiltration, and support of ground special operations forces. It is one of the primary helicopters of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR).
Photo. U.S. Army A/MH-6X Mission Enhanced Little Birds land during Weapons and Tactics Instructor course in Yuma, Arizona. Photo by Zachary M. Ford, DoD, April 4, 2016. This small helicopter provides special operations forces with a broad range of capabilities. Its small size means it can be easily transported - by air or sea. Two MH-6s can be loaded and transported on an MC-130 aircraft. The chopper has specialized avionics that allows it to fly at very low altitudes and at night. There are two variants: the MH-6 is used to infiltrate 'operators' and the AH-6 carries a variety of weapons to include machine guns, missiles, and 70mm rockets. One of its limitations is that is cannot be refueled in flight and has limited range. It can be adapted with auxiliary fuel tanks that will extend its flight range.
