Operation Market Garden
On September 17, 1944, Operation Market Garden begins. This is the battle depicted in the movie "A Bridge Too Far". Allied forces parachuted into the Netherlands to seize three key bridges while the British XXX Corps would conduct a ground linkup operation with the airborne troops.

Operation Market Garden was an attack on German troops in The Netherlands September 1944. The operation was a joint airborne-ground attack. Three airborne divisions would seize bridges across three rivers in The Netherlands. These units were the United States 101st Airborne Division seizing the first bridge, the United States 82nd Airborne Division seizing the second bridge, and the British 1st Airborne Division (augmented by a Polish regiment) to seize the third bridge at Arnhem. The British XXX Corps would conduct a ground advance along a single road that connected all three bridges. The operation was partially successful.
