427th SOS

The 427th Special Operations Squadron is a specialized, covert unit of the United States Air Force. The 427th operates non-standard aircraft such as the CN-235 for covert insertion, extraction, and resupply missions in support of SOCOM, JSOC, and other special operations units and agencies. It is a tenant unit on Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina and is a direct reporting unit to Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), Hurlburt Field, FL.

The 427th SOS specializes in short take off and landing (STOL) operations and possibly ISR. The unit operates a number of smaller, cargo transports to include the CASA CN-235M-100 and Cessna C-208. Other aircraft possibly belonging to the unit include the C212-200, C212-300, and PC-6.
